What does it mean?
A kunoichi (Japanese: くノ一) is a female ninja or practitioner of ninjutsu (ninpo). For those of you who aren’t new to me personally, this term has been attached to my Instagram name for some years now. It stems from my love of Japanese anime, namely one of my favourites “Naruto.”
Why is it important to me?
In the ninja world *PAUSE* In the real world too if I’m being honest *PLAY* …females are often underestimated and seen as “not as good as” the men. And in Naruto there is a character called Tsunade. At first, she’s not all that intimidating but in ACTUALITY she has super duper ridiculous unbelievable unimaginable human strength which overpowers all the men, she is the best medical ninja AND she has a healing justu (technique) that is unparalleled! She may be just a character but she inspires me in real life not just because she’s a woman but because of they way she pushed through that glass ceiling!
Fun Fact: She became the 1st Female Hokage aka the leader of the village.
How does this tie in to kersversations?
So, having said all that, it has inspired me to create a section to celebrate women. Not perfect human beings, but imperfect warriors like myself in all walks of life.
This section of the blog will feature one warrior a month. Look out for them, these kunoichis are hiding in plain sight. Walking among us. Fighting daily battles and winning!
Disclaimer: I am not being gender-biased. Men, don’t take this personally. *Pro-Women does not mean Anti-Men. I shall celebrate you all in my own way but as a woman often underestimated myself, this one is very close to my heart. I still love allyuhhhhh!! *said with my best trini accent*
So…. the pronunciation LOL. Let’s break it up into syllables guys!
Ku – like coo
No – like no
Ichi – like itchy
KU-NO-ICHI… *insert powerful fist pump towards the sky*
Peace. Love. Light.
